If you’re tired of the flocks of tourists in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo, I recommend a few days in Nagasaki! There is so much more to Nagasaki (長崎) than it’s atomic past. Nagasaki (長崎) is a charming and modern port city on the island of Kyushu and the capital of Nagasaki Prefecture. Nagasaki is embraced […]
Taylor Shellfish Samish Farm Store along the scenic Chuckanut Drive in Washington State is less than two-hours from downtown Vancouver, and qualifies as a local ‘Hidden Gem’. It’s definitely a best travel and slow-food find. The Taylor family has been growing shellfish for over 100 years. If you have the opportunity to take the slow […]
Oyster Shucking Novice – How I Learned to Shuck Some B.C. Beauties! Learning to Shuck Oysters to me is a basic necessary skill, like being able to properly open a bottle of Champagne. I’m in it to capture every drop, and not waste. Finesse is what its about. But finding those fresh and savoury, in-season […]

In Steveston Village, there are a number of places to get tasty in-season local Halibut or Salmon Fish and Chips freshly deep fried, on a mound of chips. A local favourite in Vancouver is Pajo’s Fish & Chips stands! In fact they came in #3 for the Best Fish and Chips in Canada according to Canadian Living! […]
I love Steveston Village in Richmond. Not only is it a fine TV location for ‘Once Upon A Time’, it’s a better place to buy fresh and local seafood, year round. I am a fan of uni (ウニ), or sea urchin, prepared in japanese and italian food. Usually I get mine in a beautiful presentation […]
It’s been a while since I’ve visited an okonomiyaki restaurant. They are hard to find outside Japan, certainly hard to find in Vancouver! Japanese comfort food, casual and tasty. Luckily for Waikiki, there’s a great place for the okonomiyaki experience at Chibo Restaurant. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q2GKSSBUFc&w=560&h=315]
These are a few of my favourite things that make the Winter Season something to look forward to, and enjoy.
