In Steveston Village, there are a number of places to get tasty in-season local Halibut or Salmon Fish and Chips freshly deep fried, on a mound of chips. A local favourite in Vancouver is Pajo’s Fish & Chips stands! In fact they came in #3 for the Best Fish and Chips in Canada according to Canadian Living! According to Pajo’s website, they use local BC ingredients, I would like to know more about that.  Also according to their website, in 2012 they used 28,652 lbs of sustainably caught Halibut, and 157,817 lbs of locally grown Kennebec Potates.  It’s clear the fish is good quality.

There are even two locations in little Steveston Village. One location is at the west corner, in Garry Point Park. On a Spring or Summer day, park at the Park, spend some time walking around Steveston Village, come back to the Park, hike around the park, do a bit of beach combing,  then stop by for some sunset Fish & Chips. A great day out!

We were here for the Halibut, and it’s definitely more expensive than the Cod or Salmon. I had the Halibut ‘Small Fish and Chips’ (1 1/2 peices of fish), but it was really 4 small pieces. ($10.99 when I went). My friend had the Halibut  ‘Large Fish and Chips’ (2 1/2 pieces of fish) (16.49 when I went), definitely a larger size newspaper cone.  Comes with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, and condiments are available like two vinegars, ketchup, and sauces. Came out to around $30 with tax. I’d recommend the smaller 1-piece Fish and Chips for children, and I’d also recommend two people sharing the Large  Fish and Chips, there was plenty if you’re not terribly hungry.

The fish was exceptionally good quality, firm and moist, and the batter was light, crunchy and not greasy. The chips were good.

The other location is on the wharf in Steveston Village. If you’re here for one stop Fish and Chips, this is your location. But be warned, its packed on the weekends in Summer. Check out Pajo’s website blog for some lovely local stories and events.
