If you’re like me, every time I watch a seaplane take off or land, I have a little pang of envy, wanting to be on that plane. That’s because I know the journey will be intimate, unique, and most likely beautiful.

Flying used to be such fun. Remember the romance of flight? To those who say it’s over, I say, ‘Take a seaplane! Come to British Columbia or Washington State, and travel by seaplane or float plane, and you will be thrilled!’

There are so many good transportation options around Vancouver, Seattle and Victoria, but there are always bodies of water to negotiate. Ferries are fantastic, they are like mini-cruises. This trip, as I was car-less, and traveling from downtown Victoria to downtown Seattle, I had the opportunity of traveling by seaplane. I jumped!

Enjoy More Travel Moments with Limited Time

Time has become one of our most valued resources, particularly in business, but if you have a limited amount of time to spend on your holiday, make the most of it. Traveling by seaplane allows you to combine the joy of travel with the reality of getting from A to B, and renews the romance of flying.

Flying From Downtown Victoria Inner Harbour to Downtown Seattle Lake Union

Relative to taking a ferry, seaplanes are somewhat more expensive, but the journey is significantly quicker. I had the option to jump on the passenger-only Victoria Clipper ferry from Victoria Harbour to Seattle Pier 69, which costs from $86-$96 one-way and it takes 3 hours. A plane ticket on Kenmore Air Seaplane to/from Victoria Inner Harbour to Downtown Seattle Lake Union costs anywhere between $120-$160 one-way and takes 45 minutes in flight time. Kenmore Air operates flights about 4 or 5 times per day, depending on the time of year. I was traveling light, just me and my carry on, so taking the Kenmore Air seaplane was ideal.

Getting a Birds Eye View – Breathtaking Views of Seattle from the Seaplane

It’s a boat, it’s a plane, its a floatplane, and it makes much of the beautiful Pacific Northwest accessible. The views are spectacular, I loved every minute.

You can also opt to fly into Nanaimo Harbour’s seaplane terminal in the heart of downtown. Service is frequent and offers spectacular scenery en route. Kenmore Air seaplanes fly (summer only) from various Seattle locations to downtown Nanaimo.
